The Plan Evolves

This section of the Connections 2040 website will provide a location for analysis and findings as the plan evolves.  Initially we provided a summary of historic and forecast growth, land use patterns and a mobility report card of the regions roadway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian transportation system.  In subsequent phases, land use and transportation alternatives were presented.  The final phase of the plan will present refinements for a preferred plan and steps for implementation.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your opinion!

One of the first activities undertaken in the development of Connections 2040 was an online transportation survey of those who live, work, visit, shop, and/or play in the Cedar Rapids area. The survey provided valuable information about the opinions and desires of the region’s transportation system users.

December 3, 2009, Visioning Forums Report Print

On December 3rd, we launched Connections 2040, a plan for how we’ll grow and invest transportation dollars over a 25-year period. People from all around the Cedar Rapids region came together to launch a conversation about how we grow and plan for our future mobility.

We discussed where new growth should occur and at what density. We explored how to balance investments in roadways, transit, sidewalks and bikeways. Some people advocated for growth that is less spread out to reduce the cost of new infrastructure. Others planned single family housing in each of the communities near Cedar Rapids. In the afternoon and evening sessions, nine tables of about eight people each discussed how to be strategic with limited resources and mapped their ideas for future growth and transportation connections.
